To keep it short
1
Botanical Inspiration
For this project, our client was looking to add a botanical shoulder detail to her ring. She knew that she wanted something soft and flowy, but not fussy, that leaned more to leafy than floral.
2
Refining Ideas
Our client's Pinterest board had a mix of more contemporary nature-inspired details and antique Art Noveau rings. During our consultation, we went through her board and decided on a more Art Noveau inspired direction that would give her the soft romanticism she was looking for.

The Little Details
To evoke the hand-carved signet rings of the period, we decided on an embossed or raised detail rather than an engraving. We went back and forth over email after our consultation, dicussing a few different potential designs that would give her the flowing, delicate look she was going for and also render well with computer aided design (CAD). Ultimately we landed on a combination of two antique rings, one with leaves and one with vines, as the starting place for the shoulder design.
The Process
During the CAD revision process, we tweaked the initial version of the shoulder design to be less abstracted and more of a literal interpretation of a vine, with the end winding into a banded detail that provides an elegant end point to the design. We also narrowed the tapered shoulders we had initially discussed and went from a low setting to raised version that would sit better with the Claddagh wedding band she planned to pair it with.
