Durability is one of our core values at Hera, so you can be assured that your ring is built to last through lifetimes of daily wear. However, fine jewelry is still delicate by nature, and even our rings must be treated with care. Here are some tips to take care of your new ring.
Protect your ring from damage
Take your ring off before activities where you will be using your hands or exposing your hands to chemicals, such as: cooking, cleaning, swimming, gardening, exercising, showering, and lifting heavy objects. We recommend placing a couple of ring dishes around your home and only leaving the ring in one of them when you take it off. Beside the sink, in the bathroom, and by your bed are good places for ring dishes.
Take your ring off before you go to bed every night to ensure it doesn’t get hit or snagged on anything in your sleep.
If your ring has prongs and/or pavé, we recommend having the ring checked yearly to make sure everything is secure. Prongs naturally will loosen over time with wear. If you notice the stone seems a little loose, stop wearing the ring and let us or a local jeweler take a look at it immediately!
Clean your ring
We recommend leaving your ring to soak for 5-10 minutes in plain old blue Dawn dish soap and water, then scrubbing it gently with a baby toothbrush. Make sure to get in all the nooks and crannies! We do not recommend regular cleaning with an ultrasonic machine, especially if you have pavé on your ring. These are fine for occasional use but will make your prongs loosen faster if you use it as your primary at-home cleaning method.
Insuring your ring
We strongly recommend that you insure your ring. Jewelers Mutual provides the best coverage for this compared to rolling your ring into an existing insurance plan.
